Deciding on a uni

How to decide on a uni (when you can't visit the campus)

As universities shift to online classes to curtail the spread of the coronavirus, the usual campus visits and Open Days may be suspended. Things are changing fast, so it’s important to check in with your university of interest regularly, but most of the usual opportunities to visit a campus in person are temporarily off the table.

The good news is: none of this means you can’t keep taking positive steps towards choosing a university next year. Here are some tips for gathering information in the time of social distancing.

Schedule a chat

One of the major benefits of visiting a campus is the opportunity to meet with current students and faculty in person and ask them questions about the institution. You may not be able to get onto campus physically right now, but luckily connecting with people virtually is easier than ever, and you can phone, text, email, Facetime or Skype.

ACU has one-on-one consultations available throughout the year where our experts are on hand to talk to you about your study options and career goals. Also, you can always reach us via AskACU.

Check out online events

Many of the events for prospective students, including our Talk with Industry series and information evenings, are being moved online. And we are adding new events all the time. Keep checking our events pages and social channels so you can take advantage of all the opportunities to gain insight into ACU.

Take a virtual tour

Explore our campuses on your computer or device with our 360-degree virtual tours. Walk through the campuses, check out our facilities and get a feel for campus life.  Also, take a look at our campus videos which give you a feel for not only the campus but the local area surrounding it.

Discover our students

We have many videos and blog posts by students about their life at ACU. Check out our day in life blog series, our day in the life videos and student stories to get the inside word about ACU straight from the people who study here every day (when not social distancing of course!).

Look to YouTube

ACU’s YouTube channel is your friend during these times. It features not only student stories and campus tours, but many highlight packages from events past. You can see previous Open Days, graduations, overseas community engagement adventures and more. These will give you a real insight into what it feels like to be part of the ACU community.

Count the numbers

See how ACU measures up in university rankings, research quality, graduate outcomes, subject strengths and more. Discover our courses, curriculum and in-demand opportunities in research, overseas study, work experience and community engagement. Follow us on social media

Following us on social media is another great strategy for discovering life on campus without visiting it in person. Our Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts usually share events and activities on campus, and at this time will still be providing insight into the values of ACU and highlighting what makes us unique.

Read Impact

Use careers advisors

Your high school careers advisor can provide a wealth of information about university. They can also connect you with former students from your high school who are studying at an ACU campus.

In the background, the team at ACU are working hard to provide your careers advisors with as much information as possible, so you can make informed decisions.

Use tech to connect

Mine your personal virtual networks like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn to find and connect with enrolled students or alumni to learn more about ACU. Email or message to set up a time to chat over FaceTime, Skype or even an old-fashioned phone call. You’ll have a contact who can provide candid information.

Remember that once you have made your choice, you have the power to start studying with a great attitude and make your university experience your perfect fit.
